Danny Allen Day of Fernandina Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026. He was 79 years old.
Danny was born in South Bend, Indiana, on October 21, 1946, to John Oliver and Frances (Sexton) Day. He was the second eldest of nine siblings, including Michael, Dixie, Larry, Sherry, John, Cindy, Gale, and Kim.
Danny was a hard-working man who began his lifelong career as a plumber under the apprenticeship of his father. He kept busy with this work well into his seventies, as he was highly sought out across Amelia Island for the quality and efficiency of his services. He also regularly lent his time and expertise to family and friends in need.
Danny was also a boisterous jokester who knew no strangers. His morning routine included heading to a local gas station for coffee, where he would chat with whoever was behind the counter. He was quick to make self-deprecating jokes, and his love language often came in the form of teasing. At one point, he installed a toilet fountain in his front yard, both to amuse and annoy his neighbors.
A generous man, Danny's other love language was gift-giving. He was the type of person who would literally give you the shirt off his back or the hat off his head if you asked for it. He especially enjoyed spoiling his sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren with meals, treats, and gifts.
He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Studebaker automobiles, and coconut cream pies.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents, John Oliver Day and Frances (Sexton) Day, his sisters Kim Day and Sherry Day, and his brother Larry Day. He is survived by siblings Mike (Joan) Day, Dixie Swigart, John (Shawn) Day, Cindy (Brian) Kmitta, and Gale (Toby) Koons; his sons, Dan Day, Jr., John (Melissa) Day, and Robert (Heather) Day; and his grandchildren Justin (Andrea) Day, Cassandra (Kalanee) Day, Susan Day, Emma Day, and Jackson Day.
The family will hold a memorial service in Danny's honor on Friday, November 6, at 12 p.m., at Manteno Church of the Nazarene.
