Edgar Anton
Tasher
Dec 21, 1941 — Oct 8, 2026
Jacksonville, FL
After a rich life filled with cherished friendships, music, civic service, athleticism, and deep devotion to family, Edgar Anton Tasher passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 84.
Born in December 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, to Edgar Anton Tasher (Teiszerski) and Myrl Tasher, Ed grew up with a strong sense of purpose. He graduated from Calumet High School and attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier before serving his country in the U.S. Air Force as a missile instructor. A pioneer during the early tech revolution, his talents led to a rewarding career as an IT Project Architect with Illinois Bell and AT&T. Following his retirement in 1992, Ed relocated to Florida in pursuit of sunshine.
Blessed with many gifts, Ed delighted in sharing them with those he loved. Whether preparing his legendary ribs, teaching a novice the game of tennis, enjoying a round of golf, or strumming his guitar to sing a favorite song, he brought joy to every gathering. His musical passion lived on through his daughter, Cara, who made teaching and performing her life's work.
Across every chapter of his life-from his "Fast Eddie" days in Westlake to over three decades in Englewood-Ed gathered a wide circle of dear friends who held his sharp sense of humor and generous spirit close to heart. He spent his remaining years at The Gables in Jacksonville, surrounded by his devoted family and supported by steadfast family friends, quickly becoming a beloved presence among both staff and fellow residents.
Ed is survived by his brother Richard; six nieces and nephews, Rick, Traci, Aaron, Sarah, Megan, Jacob; his only child Cara and her husband Nick; and his granddaughter, Mia, who brought immense light and joy to his life. As her doting "Papa T," Ed treasured every moment with Mia, showering her with sweet gifts, playful antics, and pure, unrestrained affection. He is also survived by Cara's mother and his enduring friend, Bernadette Tasher.
Memorial plans will be shared at a later date. Contributions in Ed's honor may be made to the University of North Florida Choral Program Foundation Scholarship (1 UNF Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32224), where his daughter serves as Director of Choral Studies-or simply by cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears this season. Above all, Ed lived life fully, embraced those around him with warmth, and took immense pride in his family.
