Richard Louis
Hill
Nov 20, 1959 — Sep 30, 2026
Jacksonville, FL
Richard (Rick) Louis Hill III journeyed to the big artist studio in the sky on September 30, 2026, ending his 10-month battle with cancer.
Rick was born in November 1959 in Louisville, Kentucky, to Richard Louis Hill II and Yvonne Hill. As a youth, he and his parents traveled to and lived in various states, including Indiana, Michigan, and Delaware. Rick would recall with fondness spending his summers with his grandparents, Richard and Honey Hill, at Kentucky Lake, where they would enjoy hours of boating and fishing.
At an early age, Rick identified as an intellectual, avid reader, and artist. As such, Rick had a long career as a graphic artist and art director, working for various publications and print companies. During the last several years before his retirement in 2024, he worked for Minuteman Press in Jacksonville, Florida. Rick reveled in the world of graphic design and always endeavored to find the ideal balance between function and form. He particularly enjoyed applying his artistic ability to posters, logos, brochures, periodicals, and other print media.
Rick could often be found sitting on the patio of Sneakers Sports Bar in Jacksonville Beach, enjoying a “cool, refreshing beverage” with his friends after work. He liked to play trivia and watch the people and traffic whilst enjoying the ocean breeze.
Rick lived to work on art projects and innovations. He filled his home with art installations, paintings, custom model kits, and meticulously researched anthologies. He loved movies and television shows of all kinds, especially Star Trek and other science fiction. Rick seldom encountered music or books that he did not appreciate. It can be said in earnest that he embraced all forms of art—both studied and instinctive—and applauded the lives and art of other artists, great and small.
The date of Rick’s passing coincided with his 38th wedding anniversary to his great love, friend, and verbal sparring partner, Molly Hill. In addition to his wife, Rick leaves behind his cherished daughter and kindred spirit, Ana, and her loving partner, Matthew, as well as his beloved son, Graham, who shares Rick’s intellect and curiosity. Rick enjoyed being a part of the large McBride family and referred to them as his own. It must be mentioned that Rick’s favorite confidante and garage smoking partner, Moo the Maltese, was his constant companion until the very end.
Since Rick was a well-known introvert to those who cared about him, there will be no big social gathering or service for him. Instead, his family kindly asks that you spend a moment raising a shot of Tullamore D.E.W., a cold beer, a glass of Mountain Dew, or some OJ to wish him a fond farewell. Rick was loved deeply and will forever be in our hearts.
