Rosamond Ann
Douglass
Nov 16, 1934 — Oct 13, 2026
Rosamond "Ann" Douglass, 91, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday 10/13/2026.
Born November 16, 1934, in Monroe, LA, first daughter of Colin and Rosamond Levy. The Levy's had two more daughters Susan and Jessie. Ann graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School, in Washington DC. Ann then attended the University of South Carolina, joined Delta Zeta sorority, and graduated with a degree in Journalism. She moved back to Washington DC and worked for The Washington Post, writing TV & movie reviews and as an assistant editor for the Sunday Opinion Section. While working on a master's degree in political science at the University of Maryland, she met and married her husband Charles Douglass in 1958. They moved to Dade city in 1961, with their young son Andrew. Ann completed a master's degree in library science from the University of South Florida, while having 2 more children, Carole and Bruce. She also worked at this time for the Pasco County Public Schools as a Librarian. While employed by the school system Ann and Charles helped organize "The Florida Statewide Teacher Walkout." Although the walkout was successful in improving education funding and teachers pay, Ann and Charles paid a professional cost. As a result, in 1968, the Douglass family moved to Jacksonville. There she had her final child, David. She went to work for the Duval County Public School System as a librarian: starting at Fletcher HS, then Englewood HS and 2 years at Gilbert 7th Grade Center. In 1972, she transferred to Nathan B Forrest HS (now Westside HS) and soon became the Head Librarian. She worked there until her retirement in 2002.
In addition to raising four children, Ann was actively involved in Duval Teachers United union: serving on the bargaining team, the executive committee as well as, the building rep for Forrest. Ann was also a member American Library Association & the Florida Association for Media in Education, to encourage professional standards in public school libraries. Ann was also a lifelong enthusiastic Democrat and volunteered for many candidates over her lifetime.
Her beloved husband, Charles, passed away in 2020. They were married for almost 62 years
.
She is survived by her children: Andrew, Carole, Bruce, and David. Andrew's longtime partner Jackie Stewart, Carole's husband Keith Kempster, Bruce's wife Kira Fredrick-Douglass and her grandchild Isla Rosamond Douglass.
Sister Jessie and her brother-in-law Tim Trickett. Brother-in-law Mike Colbert and nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, sister Susan (2019) and husband Charles.
Special thanks to the memory care unit staff & administration at Brookdale Southpoint for the last 3 years of care and dedication given to our mom.
