Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that making cremation arrangements can feel overwhelming, especially

when you’re unsure what to expect. Our goal is to make the process as simple, transparent, and straightforward as possible.

  • What should I do when a death occurs?

Call Affordable Cremation Solutions. Our team will guide you through the next steps and coordinate bringing your loved one into our care.

If the death occurs at a hospital, hospice facility, nursing home, or other care facility, their staff may ask which funeral or cremation provider you have selected. Simply provide them with our information.

  • What if my loved one passes away at home?

If your loved one is under hospice care, contact the hospice provider and Affordable Cremation Solutions. Hospice will typically make the required pronouncement, and we can then coordinate bringing your loved one into our care.

If the death is unexpected and your loved one is not under hospice care, call 911. Once the appropriate authorities have completed their procedures and released your loved one, we can assist with the next steps.

  • What is direct cremation?

Direct cremation is a simple form of cremation without a funeral ceremony or viewing beforehand. We bring your loved one into our care, complete the necessary paperwork and permits, perform the cremation, and return the cremated remains to the family.

Choosing direct cremation does not mean you cannot have a meaningful service or

permanent place of remembrance. Many families choose to hold a memorial service or celebration of life and select a final resting place following the cremation.

  • How much does cremation cost?

We believe families should understand their options and costs before making a

decision. Our cremation packages are designed to provide straightforward choices at affordable prices.

Contact us or view our cremation options to see current pricing and what is included with each package.

  • Are there additional or hidden fees?

We work hard to keep our pricing clear and easy to understand. Certain circumstances may result in additional charges, such as transportation outside our standard service area, special handling requirements, additional death certificates, or other services requested by the family.

We will explain applicable charges before arrangements are finalized.

  • Do I have to come into the funeral home to make arrangements?

Not necessarily. Many cremation arrangements can be completed electronically and over the phone, allowing families to make arrangements from home.

If you would rather meet with someone in person, our team is happy to assist you.

  • How quickly will you bring my loved one into your care?

Once we receive the call and your loved one has been released to us, our team will

coordinate transportation as promptly as possible.

Timing can vary depending on location, facility release procedures, medical examiner  involvement, and other circumstances.

  • Where will my loved one be cared for?

Your loved one remains in our care throughout the entire process. Cremation takes place right here on our property, meaning your loved one does not leave our care or get transferred to an off-site crematory.

This allows us to maintain direct oversight and continuity of care from the time your

loved one arrives through the completion of the cremation.

  • How do I know I will receive the correct cremated remains?

Identification and chain of custody are extremely important to us. Each individual is carefully identified and tracked throughout the entire cremation process using established identification procedures.

Because the cremation takes place on our property, your loved one remains in our care throughout the process.

  • Is a casket required for cremation?

No. A traditional casket is not required for direct cremation.

An appropriate cremation container is required and is typically included or available as part of the cremation arrangements.

  • Can we have a viewing before cremation?

Yes. While Affordable Cremation Solutions specializes in simple cremation

arrangements, we work closely with an affiliated funeral service company that can

provide exceptional viewings, visitations, memorial services, life celebrations, receptions, and full-service funeral arrangements.

If your family would like to spend time together, see your loved one before cremation, or have a more traditional service, we can seamlessly connect you with our affiliated team and help coordinate everything.

  • Can we still have a funeral or memorial service if we choose cremation?

Absolutely. Cremation is simply a form of disposition—it does not replace the

importance of gathering, remembering, and celebrating someone's life.

Through our affiliated funeral service company, families have access to exceptionalmemorial services, life celebrations, receptions, viewings, visitations, and full-service funeral arrangements.

Whether you want something simple and intimate or a larger celebration, our teams

work closely together to make the process easy and meaningful for your family.

  • How long does the cremation process take?

We understand how important it is for families to have their loved one's crematedremains returned to them promptly.

While required authorizations, permits, and documentation must be completed before a cremation can take place, our team works quickly throughout the process to avoid

unnecessary delays and return the cremated remains to your family as soon as possible.

We will keep you informed throughout the process and work diligently to make everything as efficient and seamless as possible.

  • Who has the legal authority to authorize cremation?

Florida law determines who has the legal authority to make cremation arrangements

    and provide authorization.

Every family situation is different. If there are questions involving spouses, children,

multiple family members, or other circumstances, our staff will help determine what documentation and authorizations are required.

  • Can I preplan and pay for cremation in advance?

Yes. Advance planning allows you to make your wishes known ahead of time and can

reduce the number of decisions your family will need to make later.

Our team can explain the available advance planning options and help you determine what makes sense for you.

  • Can I arrange cremation for a family member from out of town?

Yes. We regularly work with family members who live outside the Jacksonville area.

Much of the arrangement process can be handled by phone and electronically.

  • Can you help if someone dies while traveling?

Yes. We can help coordinate arrangements when a death occurs away from home, including working with funeral homes, transportation providers, and other professionals when necessary.

  • What should we do with the cremated remains after cremation?

We encourage families to think beyond the cremation itself.

A memorial service, life celebration, or family gathering gives those who loved the

person an opportunity to come together, share memories, support one another, and

honor a life that mattered. Just as important is deciding on a meaningful final place for the cremated remains.

Many families choose burial in a cemetery, placement in a cremation garden or niche, or another permanent place of remembrance. Others may choose scattering where legally permitted.

There is no single right choice, but we believe having a service and establishing a

thoughtful final place of rest can be an important part of honoring your loved one and creating a place for future generations to remember them.

Our team can help you understand the options available and connect you with our

affiliated funeral service company when you would like assistance planning a service or final placement.

  • Can cremated remains be buried in a cemetery?

Yes. Cremated remains can be buried in a cemetery just like traditional casketed

remains. Many cemeteries also offer cremation gardens, niches, and other permanent memorialization options.

Choosing a permanent place of rest gives family and future generations a dedicated

place to visit, remember, and honor their loved one.

  • Can cremated remains be divided among family members?

Yes. Cremated remains can generally be divided into multiple urns or keepsakes if the person with legal authority requests it.

  • Can you help us obtain death certificates?

Yes. We will assist with filing the necessary information to obtain certified copies of thedeath certificate.

The number of copies you need depends on your circumstances. Certified copies are commonly needed for financial institutions, insurance policies, property, investments, and other legal or financial matters.

  • Do you write and publish obituaries?

We can assist families with obituary information and available publication options. Our staff can explain what is included with your arrangements and any additional options

    available.

  • What if we don't know exactly what we want?

    That's completely normal.
